Clothiers Seminar 2026

40th Annual Clothier’s Seminar:  Carnival!

January 24th, 2026
Hosted by the Shire of Cum an Iolair
Christ United Methodist Church
14506 E 29th St S
Independence, MO 64055

From the Festival of the Navigum Isidius in Ancient Rome to today, Carnival has been celebrated in so many different ways.  This is the period from Christmas to Lent, where we eat very well, and societal roles are reversed – the Pauper can be a Noble, the Merchant can be a Musician, everyone’s true identity is disguised!  This is our chance to dive down that rabbit hole and create something period-appropriate that would have been used to celebrate Carnival! There will be an A&S competition surrounding this theme!
This seminar-style event is a day of classes that are all about how to create the clothing and accessories we wear.  It is a great place to learn what garb you enjoy best, and how to make them.  We will see many different garments from all of history at this event!
Instructors may sign up to teach a maximum of two classes.  Classes may be one to two hours in length.
The lunch break will feature the annual “Walk Through History” fashion show, where members of the populace can present the clothing of any SCA period and social class.  Entries in the Walk Through History are not required to follow the Carnival theme, but it is encouraged.
